Microlise Gives Visibility to Sub Contract Vehicles

Microlise are claiming to be the first company to solve the problem of giving the main transport contractor real-time tracking visibility of sub contract vehicles, even where the sub contract they are working on changes on a short term or even daily basis. Using the Microlise Fleet & Distribution solution as a managed web based service, sub contract vehicles which are fitted with the Microlise Tracking Unit (MTU) can be assigned to different 3PL’s or main transport contractors on an ad hoc basis and immediately become visible within the Microlise Map Client as part of the main contractors fleet for the period of the assignment.

For many 3PL’s or haulage companies, the ability to maximise the business benefits of tracking their fleet can be reduced due to the spasmodic use of sub contractors to meet peaks in demand. In most instances, sub contract vehicles are not equipped with tracking devices and even when they are, configuration of the telematics to give visibility of those vehicles within the main contractors fleet is difficult or even impossible. By using Microlise Fleet & Distribution as a managed web service this problem is eliminated. The telematic settings of Sub Contract vehicles fitted with the Microlise Tracking Unit (or Mobile data terminal fitted with a blue tooth GPS receiver) can be easily changed dynamically on the web server so that they appear within the fleet of the main contractor for the period of the contract. They can therefore be planned and scheduled as if they were a resource of the main contractor.

The ability to quickly change the allegiance of sub contract vehicles in this way is seen as a major motivator for sub contract fleet operators to differentiate themselves by offering client companies vehicle tracking as part of the sub contract service.
